What are Cup Brushes?
A wire cup brush is a cleaning tool with a metal cup and bristles. It can be used to clean surfaces such as car brake drums and wheel rims, as well as other items such as engines.

Wire Cup Brush Manufacturing Process
The wire cup brush manufacturing process typically begins with paper. Paper is carded to remove short fibers and create a uniform surface. A variety of wood pith may be added to the carding before the paper is rolled on a cylinder to produce long, thin sheets. The sheets are then slit, dried, and cut into strips of various widths by use of circular blades.
These strips are bundled together and twisted into spirals that are known as “poles” or “spools”. A machine then winds these spools onto their own shafts about one inch in diameter that are formed from steel bars or rods that have first been heated until they can be bent at 90° angles. The number of spools wound on these shafts varies depending on the size.
Cup Brush Applications
Cup brushes are used for carding wool. The cup brush is used to card wool where the least amount of dirt, dust, and other foreign material is desired. The technique has been in use since the 18th century and is still in use today.
